Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 may not break the third-person shooter mold, but it looks amazing, makes good use of its Warhammer lore, and has brutal combat that just feels great.
Game Rant: 4.5 / 5 by Jake Fillery
Even without knowing the lore around Warhammer 40,000, Space Marine 2 does a great job of inviting new fans into the franchise by showing the unwavering courage, sacrifice, and devotion of these super soldiers, but that doesn't mean things are dumbed-down to disrespect die-hard fans. Being a veteran of the franchise isn’t essential to the enjoyment of Space Marine 2; while it might further satisfy the experience, the universe is brought to life with such detail that it makes for the perfect gateway for newcomers.

The main pros of the game
- Visuals and Sound Design: The game is praised for its stunning graphics, beautiful environments, and immersive sound design that captures the Warhammer 40k universe effectively.
- Engaging Combat: Players enjoy the dynamic and brutal combat mechanics, including a satisfying mix of melee and ranged combat. The ability to perform executions and use various weapons adds to the enjoyment.
- Lore and Story: The game is faithful to the Warhammer 40k lore, with a compelling story that resonates well with fans of the franchise.
- Multiplayer Modes: The online co-op mode is highlighted as a strong point, providing a fun experience with friends. Players appreciate the variety in classes and the depth of gameplay in Operations mode.
- Character Customization: There is a significant amount of customization available for Space Marines, allowing players to tailor their characters to their liking.
The main cons of the game
- Balancing Issues: Many players express frustration over the balance between player abilities and enemy toughness, especially after recent patches that nerfed player capabilities while buffing enemies.
- Server and Connectivity Problems: Users report frequent crashes, long matchmaking times, and disconnections that significantly hinder the gaming experience.
- Short Campaign: The campaign length is considered too short (around 6-10 hours), leading to dissatisfaction among players who expected more content.
- Repetitive Gameplay: Some players find the gameplay repetitive, particularly in Operations mode, where grinding through the same missions can become tedious.
- Difficulty Spikes: Players have noted that certain difficulty levels feel unreasonably hard, with enemies becoming "bullet sponges" rather than increasing in number or variety.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Training Area: Players wish for a training mode to practice skills and learn enemy patterns without the pressure of combat.
- More Content: There is a desire for more missions, especially in PvE, to enhance replayability and provide a richer experience.
- Better Balancing and Progression Systems: Users want a more rewarding progression system that doesn’t feel like a grind, along with better balancing between classes and weapons.
- Improved AI for Bots: Some players find the AI teammates ineffective, leading to frustration during missions when playing solo.
- FOV and Ultrawide Support: There are requests for better camera controls and field of view options, particularly for players using ultrawide monitors.
In summary, while Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has a solid foundation with impressive visuals and engaging combat, it faces criticism regarding balance issues, server stability, and content limitations. Players are hoping for future updates to address these concerns and enhance the overall experience.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Description
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is the second installment in a series of dynamic action games, launched in 2011. Unlike the first part of the series, which was created by Relic Entertainment and THQ, the sequel is the work of the Saber Interactive team, and its release was handled by Focus Entertainment.
Plot
As the title suggests, the action of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, which is engulfed in eternal war. The main character of this item is Captain Titus, known from the first part of the series, belonging to an elite unit of Space Marines (played by Clive Standen, known from the film Taken and the tv series Vikings). The protagonist begins another bloody ordeal, during which he will not only have to slaughter hordes of Tyranids, but also uncover the dark secrets of the galaxy.
Mechanics
In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 we watch events from a third-person perspective (TPP). The core of the game are dynamic and brutal clashes with hordes of enemies, during which instead of hiding behind cover, we push forward with a loud battle cry. We eliminate hordes of enemies, making use of a wide range of murder tools, among which futuristic firearms lead the way, headed by a powerful machine gun. Although it works great in situations where we keep enemies at a distance, when we are close to adversaries, it is better to reach for the iconic hybrid of a sword and a chainsaw.
Game modes
In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 we can play solo or in multiplayer. For players who prefer solitary play, a story campaign has been prepared, in which we traverse atmospheric locations, participate in large-scale battles and carry out tasks entrusted to us. In addition to this, a cooperative campaign for up to three people is available, as well as PvP modes, in which two six-person teams fight for victory (one represents the Space Marines, while the other - the Chaos Space Marines).
While in the single-player campaign we play as Captain Titus, in multiplayer modes we take control of a Space Marine representing one of six classes - Tactical, Assault, Vanguard, Bulwark, Sniper and Heavy. As we progress, we unlock new skills, as well as cosmetic items, which allow us to personalize the appearance of our soldier.
