Silent Hill 2 Remake Achieves in Days What 2001 Original Took Over a Month. Total Sales of the Game Exceeded One Million Copies

The remake of Silent Hill 2 has turned out to be quite a hit. The game is selling much faster than the 2001 original, although this should be no surprise.

The Polish studio Bloober Team has reasons to be pleased. The game developed by this team, Silent Hill 2, a remake of the iconic survival horror from 2001, turned out to be a huge commercial success.

  1. Konami, the game's publisher boasted that the sales of the remake of Silent Hill 2 exceeded one million copies (digital + boxed).
  2. This result comes from data collected up to October 11, so undoubtedly it is higher now.
  3. Let's remind that Silent Hill 2 had its official premiere on October 8, but people with Deluxe versions started playing two days earlier. Of course, pre-orders are also included in the sales results.

As the renowned gaming industry analyst Daniel Ahmad recalled on X, original Silent Hill 2, released in 2001 for PlayStation 2, took over a month to surpass the million-copy mark, while the remake achieved this in just three days (5 days if you count paid early access pre-orders).

Of course, it should be remembered that directly comparing the results of both games is not entirely fair. The original debuted in September 2001 exclusively on PS2, when this console had been on the market for just over a year, and the version for the first Xbox was released a few months later (PC users had to wait until the turn of 2002 and 2003). However, the remake immediately hit PC and PlayStation 5.

However, exceeding a million copies in a few days is still a reason for satisfaction for Bloober Team and Konami, as it shows that the refreshed version of the classic prepared by the team was warmly received. The satisfaction of the players can also be seen on Steam, where the remake has 94% positive reviews.
